GROWVista 2 is a 1 ft. x 2 ft. x 4 in. module designed mainly for extensive green roof and semi-intensive green roof designs. Deep reservoirs help the system maximize stormwater retention and provide moisture for plants. The GROWVista 2 was designed with channels to allow air flow through the system. This helps mitigate wind uplift and supplies oxygen to plant roots. The channels also accommodate irrigation supply lines for all types of irrigation systems, either during installation or post-installation. This module is Ideal for extensive and semi-intensive vegetated green roof designs.

The GROWVista-2 can be used to accomplish semi-intensive and extensive green roof designs. With a growth media depths of 4-inches, GROWVista-2 can be planted with a variety of extensive and semi-intensive plant options.

Extensive Green Roof Profiles

 

Extensive green roofs are designed to be drought tolerant and require minimal maintenance. Growth media for extensive green roofs is comprised mostly of light-weight aggregates and minimal organic material. Plants that work best for extensive style green roofs include mainly varieties of Sedum and other succulents, plus some mosses, herbs, and grasses. Plant selections should be determined based on regional climate and site specific conditions.

 

The GROWVista-2 module can be used to accomplish an extensive green roof design two ways – standard or hybrid method. Using the standard method, modules are filled and pre-vegetated at the nursery prior to delivery. The hybrid method requires filling modules on the roof and planted on site with Sedum Mats/Tiles or plugs. See Planting Options for more details on these methods.

Semi-Intensive Green Roofs

 

Semi-Intensive designs fall in between extensive and intensive designs. They generally incorporate a heavier growing media with more organic material than extensive media blends. These green roofs may require more maintenance and permanent irrigation depending on plant selection and climate. It is best to still use drought resistant plant species based on regional climate and site specific conditions. Plants for semi-intensive designs can include succulents, ornamental grasses, herbaceous perennials, and small shrubs. Some examples of these designs are perennial flower gardens, wildflower meadows, or rolling prairies.
